If they believe you are dead. When they find out you are alive though, you may have to pay your student loan from prison.

Good luck with the plan. It wont work. However, if you were to really die, your stafford loans are canceled. They do not go after your family. The loans are only in YOUR name, no one else.

Alternative loans are another matter, especially if you have a cosigner.
